At the beginning of June a meeting was held in Chelmsford to plan for the imminent arrival of the Pilgrimage on 15 June 1926. A welcome tea at Springfield Church Hall would be followed by a procession. The pilgrim numbers would be swelled by local sympathisers from Chelmsford and surrounding villages, and accompanied by Girl Guides. The attire of the expected pilgrims was described in the local newpaper:
‘With pennons of blue and crimson, the colours of the East Coast route and armlets of blue with a silver dove, this band of Pilgrims will march into the centre of the town.’
The procession would be followed by an open-air demonstration, where the model resolution on law, not war would be put.
