Heavy rain forced the Leeds No More War meeting of Saturday, 28 July 1923 to take place indoors at the schoolroom of the Oxford Place Chapel. Messages of solidarity were read out from home and abroad, including the USA, Canada, Belgium, Austria, Bulgaria and Finland. One message from France said, ‘We have faith in the sound will of the people, and we trust that the era of war is approaching its end. There is no reason why ultimately the masses should not break the will of the war lords.’ Meetings were also held nearby in Bradford, Wakefield and York.
