In September 1919, a procession led by the 1st Morecambe Boy Scouts set off from Sandylands in Morecambe for Heysham Hall. The procession consisted of seven lorries of Heysham children, three of which were particularly striking. The first had a representation of the Allies with John Bull seated in the centre and gathered around him, children dressed in national costumes representing different countries: America, Italy, Japan, France, Belgium, Romania and Serbia. The second lorry represented ‘peace with victory.’ Two small girls sat side-by-side, dressed in white. One wore the laurels of victory and the other had a dove of peace head-covering. The third lorry featured ‘Britannia surrounded by her children’: the peoples of England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and the colonies.
