Burnley Education Committee was among four local education authorities that had taken steps towards education about the League of Nations. It had given permission to its elementary school headmasters and teachers to teach about the aims of the League of Nations on Armistice Day.
The other three local education authorities were Bradford Education Committee, which permitted the formation of junior branches of the League of Nations Union (LNU) in any school where staff were willing to take the responsibility. Smethwick developed a Peace Day on the school day nearest to Armistice Day, when ideals of the League of Nations would be taught. Rushden permitted LNU speakers to speak to school children about the League of Nations within the school day.
