Lancaster and Morecambe’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) history plays an important part in the national story around the fight for equal rights by the LGB&T community. In 2014, Global Link was awarded Heritage Lottery funding to create a town trail that maps places of local importance in our district’s LGBT history. The places on the trail, identified and researched by project volunteers, include sites of local LGBT activism as well as social spaces.
A number of volunteers also created digital stories that bring to life the significance of some of the places on the trail for local LGB&T people. You will find these stories when you click on the relevant sites on the trail.
The Lancaster and Morecambe Town Trail is connected to the national ‘Pride of Place’ LGBTQ Heritage Project, which uses an interactive map to explore and celebrate the relationship between LGBTQ history and the country’s historic buildings and spaces.
