Global Link is an educational charity in Lancaster running workshops, exhibitions, training and other events in schools, colleges and the wider community on global citizenship issues such as diversity, human rights, migration, fair trade, climate change and sustainable development. There is a long way to go towards achieving equal rights for LGBTQ people around the world and many still face discrimination in law. In September 2015, 12 United Nations agencies issued a powerful joint statement on “Ending Violence and Discrimination against Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) Adults, Adolescents and Children”. The statement called upon governments around the world to do more to tackle human rights abuses against LGBTI people and put forward practical steps that governments should take to protect individuals from discrimination.
